Debt settlement or debt relief companies can assist individuals in dealing with their debts. However, there are many companies that take thousands of dollars from consumers before they do any work if they ever do any work. In the meantime, the individuals have stopped paying their creditors, upon the advice of the debt settlement company.  Then they get sued and even have their wages or bank accounts garnished or seized because the debt settlement company has not done anything yet.

Several state attorney generals have sued some of these companies over their deceptive practices. West Virginia Attorney General is the latest to file a lawsuit against a company operating out of Nevada.

If you are struggling with paying your bills, don't turn your money over to a company that may not even be licensed to do business in Virginia. Contact Hampton Roads Legal Services at 757-276-6555 and find out what true debt relief through bankruptcy is.
